Proven innovation with plasma reinforcement technology for improved rock excavation pick cutter performance

Wonkang Co., Ltd. (CEO Kang Tae-young) has won the “Innovative Products/Equipment” award at the 2025 KTA Tunnelling Awards hosted by the Korean Tunnelling Association (KTA).

The awarded technology, “Performance Improvement Technology for Rock Excavation Pick Cutters Using Plasma Reinforcement,” is the result of joint research and development conducted by Wonkang Co., Ltd. and the Korea Institute of Construction Technology (President Park Sun-kyu) as a demand & family company collaboration. Both organizations jointly received the award for this technology.

This technology applies plasma reinforcement to the pick cutters, which are key components of rock excavation roadheader equipment, significantly improving wear resistance and work efficiency. It has made a substantial contribution to practical performance improvement and productivity enhancement at tunnel and underground construction sites.

This award is evaluated as an official recognition of Wonkang Co., Ltd.’s innovative technology that contributed to the development of the tunnelling industry and its achievements in driving real change through on-site application.
